Meet Andrew Malysheff!

Andrew hails from Cochrane, Alberta, and for the past three years, he’s been chasing big throws and even bigger personal bests. He kicked off his first two seasons as a lightweight, and kicked some serious butt too, snagging a couple of first-place finishes. This year, he’s back and ready to throw down in his second season competing in the Men’s AM B class.

You’ll spot Andrew proudly sporting the Anderson tartan—a nod to his grandmother’s clan. She watched him compete and cheered him on during his first season, and he’s been competing in her honour ever since. Last year, he hit a milestone in the Weight Over Bar (WOB), but if you ask him, the Caber Toss is where he really shines. It’s in his blood—literally. His very first pick? Nailed it!

For Andrew, the Highland Games are more than just kilts and cabers—they’re family, fun, and fierce competition all rolled into one. From cheering spectators to talented athletes and dancers, the community has been nothing short of amazing. And beyond the field, the Games helped him find his footing during a tough time, shaping a healthier path in both fitness and nutrition.
