Embro Highland Games
July 1
The oldest Scottish games in Ontario, the Embro Highland Games is a celebration of the region’s rich Celtic roots, which hail back to 1820 when the area was originally settled by those forced from their lands in Sutherland, Scotland. That heritage will again be celebrated on Canada Day in 2023 with a bevy of activities, including competitive Highland dancing, massed pipe bands, piping competitions, heavy events, Highland cows, Shetland ponies, agility dogs, Scottish dogs on parade, children’s Scottish-themed crafts and activities and the always-popular Tug of War contest. The day will include live music from Celt-rockers the Mudmen, as well as local duo The Paddystones. Adult guests are welcome to stroll the fully licensed grounds, while enjoying a locally made craft beer from Upper Thames Brewing Company, or a cocktail from Junction 56 Distillery. The vendor’s area is always worth a visit with its fine array of Scottish wares and fabulous food trucks!
