Five of our favorite newer Scottish-based TV Shows!

With the number of streaming services available today, finding something to watch on any given night has never been easier. So, if you’re looking to kick back and watch something based in Scotland OTHER THAN our beloved Outlander, here’s a wee list of five of our favorite (newer) shows and the streaming services where you can find them.

The Nest

Released in 2020, Martin Compston (Line of Duty) and Sophie Rundle (Bodyguard) star in this suspenseful Scottish drama about a wealthy couple who would do anything to have a baby. After a chance encounter, they recruit a down-on-her-luck 18-year-old (Mirren Mack, Sex Education) to be a surrogate, but secrets emerge about the girl’s past that could make them regret their deal. “Gripping, intriguing” -The Guardian.

Traces

Released in 2019 and based in Dundee, Emma Hedges needs to find out what happened to her mum. In a world of danger and deceit, will Emma have the nerve to follow the evidence no matter where it takes her?

Men in Kilts: A Roadtrip with Sam and Graham

Released in 2021, Sam and Graham take viewers along on their adventures, discovering the rich, complex heritage of their native country, meeting local artisans and experts, and experiencing genuine moments of awe and fascination.

While no release date has been issued for Season 2, we know that it has wrapped filming and will be featuring Sam and Graham exploring New Zealand and all of its ties with Scottish history and ancestry.

Annika

Released in 2021, Nicola Walker stars as DI Annika Strandhed, the speedboat-driving head of Glasgow’s newly-formed Marine Homicide Unit, who juggles baffling cases and a rebellious teenage daughter.

Karen Pirie

Released in 2022, Lauren Lyle stars as DS Karen Pirie. After the promotion to Police Scotland’s Historic Cases Unit, she reopens the cold case of a murdered barmaid. Her investigation unearths flaws in the original 1995 inquiry.
