If you’re not familiar with Jarvina Routt, you should be! She holds the world record for the 3rd furthest throw in women’s history (28lbs at a whopping 52’1″) in addition to having won the Women’s National Lightweight Championship in 2018! She’s a force to be reckoned with, and I have had the personal pleasure of seeing her compete in person here in southern California as she is a SoCal native.
Jarvina’s love of throwing goes all the way back to her high school years when she competed on the track and field team. After she was encouraged to attend a local Highland Game and competed for the first time in 2015, a whole new chapter of her life opened up! She describes the Highland Games community as a warm and welcoming one in which she often speaks about all of the life-long friendships and relationships she has created.
You can find Jarvina competing in Highland Games all across the U.S. in addition to competing in bonnie Scotland! She proudly sports the U.S. Marine tartan in honor of her father who served, and she loves to help athletes train and grow by helping them find practice groups. She is truly an ambassador for the sport and for the Highland Games community!
